With festivals all season long, you might be lucky enough to experience them for yourself. Visit Barcelona around the end of September for a chance to see spirited bands parading through the streets, attracting locals and visitors alike. In Dubrov, taste local favorites through cooking classes and themed dinners.

Best Time to Cruise the Mediterranean

Welcome to Marseille – one of France’s oldest cities and your gateway to the romantic and dreamy Provence! Designated as the ‘European Capital of Culture’ in 2013 and nicknamed ‘France’s New Orleans’ it has its own groovy Renaissance vibe going on and a wealth of activities to choose from. Personally, for me, out of all the speciality dining restaurants onboard, the Crown Grill wins hands down for the best restaurant onboard. The mixture of the service, the atmosphere and my word those steaks (!) was just brilliant.

During the winter, many locals close up shop, making it difficult for travelers to enjoy the full Mediterranean experience. Whether you want to spend the day touring the Colosseum or taste the first Greek wines of the season, here are the best months to cruise the Mediterranean. Or hike Mt. Fløien and revel in panoramic views of Norway’s woodlands, fjords and cityscapes. The Mediterranean’s temperate weather beckons active travelers to spend their days outside exploring and immersing themselves in the region. Whether on the water or solid ground, there are plenty of ways to keep active during Celebrity’s 9-night Italy, France & Spain itinerary, beginning in Rome and ending in Barcelona.

Curated excursions in each port are designed to provide exceptional experiences that make the most of each destination. In true Ritz-Carlton fashion, the Concierge Ashore can also create a personalized outing tailor-made just for you. The nine-night trip takes guests to seven ports through Italy and Croatia, providing varied terrain and plentiful shore excursion options. Visit beautiful seaside towns like Portofino, explore the Venetian canals, and enjoy the ship's amenities during days at sea. From thrilling kayak voyages in Flåm to relaxing beach days in Mykonos, find shore excursions that match every guest’s preference with Princess. In Rome, taste local delicacies like wood-fired pizza, fine wines and homemade gelato.

From one sea to another

Walk Tallinn’s cobbled streets and admire the preserved medieval architecture from its 13th-century origins. Sun Princess® is the first ship in our fleet to be powered by Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). This cleaner burning fuel will significantly reduce air emissions and marine gasoil to minimize our environmental footprint. She is the third ship to be honored with the Sun Princess® name, adding to the legacy of the first ship sailing from 1974 to 1988 and the second ship sailing from 1995 to 2020. At that time, she had the largest number of balcony cabins and our first 24-hour cafe.

This grand church was erected under Norman occupation and underwent reconstruction not long after an earthquake devastated the island in 1908. In the town of Taormina — just a short distance from Messina — you can visit the ancient Greek Theater that dates back to the Hellenistic era and now serves as a venue for concerts and classical productions. Visions of sparkling coasts and crystalline waters welcome you to the Mediterranean. Dip your toes on the black-sand coast of Santorini on a Greek cruise. Head to Salerno to spend the day in Positano relaxing on the white beaches and admiring the pastel houses that decorate the cliffs around you. Or travel to Mykonos with your loved ones and daydream on the city’s long stretch of golden sand and stroll in the sunshine.

I wanted to be a part of something truly local, authentic, memorable and unique. We checked in onboard, skipped the siesta, grabbed our cameras and headed straight for Plaça Reial in the Gothic Quarter of old Barcelona. Cruises are a wonderful, worry-free way to explore the great cities of Europe. About three-quarters of all European cruises are Mediterranean cruises, and the other one-fourth are cruises of the British Isles and Northern Europe.

We know you love great food, so we’ve elevated our dining – three decks high.

This 22-day trip tracks its way through 20 ports via five countries, including Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, and Turkey. Walk the cobblestone streets on the Greek Islands, see the colorful coastline in Marmaris, admire the glittering lights from the homes that snake their way up Lovćen Mountain, and more. Onboard, dine in one of the ship’s eight restaurants, take a dip in the top deck pool, or lounge in a common space to regale your fellow guests about the day’s adventure.

Experience ultimate luxury on your Mediterranean Princess Cruise

Or stroll the illuminated streets of Genoa with gelato in hand after a traditional Italian dinner. As the largest port in the Mediterranean, Marseille is the gateway to opportunity. On a Mediterranean cruise, spend the day in Arles, and explore the landscapes that inspired much of Van Gogh’s artwork.

I had to catch a flight back to the UK in the afternoon from here – but still made the absolute most of the time I had. After seeing so many pictures of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, I just had to go and see it with my own eyes, so I opted for a day tour to go and see the town…on a very interesting mode of transport. For all cultural and architectural enthusiasts, it is going to be a fantastic day for you if you want to go and see the Duomo, the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio. Or, you can make friends with Florence’s rival political power and take a shore excursion to Pisa instead! Also very much battling for art and architecture star status, Pisa has that leaning tower that you might just want to go and see.

Or enjoy a glass from the comfort of your stateroom balcony while taking in views of Europe’s most inspiring shorelines. Grand chapels and stone angels line the roads, whispering secrets of Rome’s past. On a cruise to Europe from Rome, arrive early to toss a coin into Trevi Fountain. Then walk in the footsteps of Emperors at the Colosseum, and receive a blessing from the Pope at St. Peter’s Square.

You can visit the Ducal Palace with a splendid art collection through narrow Via Garibaldi as well as Chiesa del Gesu. Spend a half day exploring the narrow streets and the coastal roadway of Marseille whilst visiting the Cathedrale de la Major and Basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde. Entering the world of the Bandol vineyards in the La Cadière-d’Azur region is just as romantic and glorious as you’re imagining it to be. Take a quick shower, throw on your fluffy robe and slippers, and receive the TLC that you so deserve. The Lotus Spa offers many divine treatments, including facials, massages, detoxifying ocean wraps and revitalising body scrubs. I opted for a 50-minute Exotic Lime-Ginger Salt Glow Scrub with massage and came out feeling like a buttery-smooth goddess.

Many passengers chose to explore Capri or Pompeii (which I had already visited). As you can tell, we prefer time to explore on our own, so our tour of choice was Sorrento & Local Wine Tasting. From the Naples Cruise Port, Sorrento is just over an hour bus ride. We explored Sorrento on our own, shopped til we dropped, and fell in love with this beautiful city. This popular tourist destination is known for its food, lemons, and limoncello.

‘Don’t show fear and don’t look those apes in the eye’ was my continuous mantra, yet slowly but surely, we all lost our calm and collected exteriors and found ourselves racing for the cable car going down to escape. You can listen to the piano player in the main piazza whilst sipping on a cocktail, watch a movie Under the Stars, play in the casino, read in the library or work out in the Lotus Spa Fitness Centre. You can take part in Treasure Hunts, learn how to dance, sing karaoke, play bingo or buy some fine art at the auctions. There’s LGBT meetups, jewellery shopping with raffles and free champagne, a basketball court, ping pong tournaments, mini golf and an entire theatre to see shows. There are many exciting gadgets, gizmos, flashing lights and important-looking buttons in here that look like something out of Austin Powers’ Headquarters. For any nautical and tech geek, it’s a dream come true to step into the Bridge and meet the captain and Princess Cruises crew.

My only regret was that we didn’t take advantage of the onboard offer for a low deposit on a future cruise. The Princess MedallionClass app is an all-in-one app that provides access to digital experiences on a Princess cruise. The app interacts with your Ocean Medallion, a free, wearable device that communicates with thousands of sensors onboard and in port. This device allows guests to have a more personalized cruise experience. For example, when we docked at Kotor, Montenegro, on the shores of the Aegan Sea, after our cooking tour, we explored its medieval city on our own. When it was time to return to the ship, we were thirsty and hot but had to wait in line without shade for about 30 minutes.

The company is strictly for guests ages 18 and up, providing a more mature cruising environment. The company stops in dozens of ports, making finding a cruise that fits your travel desires a snap. And the cruise line offers free shore excursions to enable all guests to experience the ports to their fullest. Visit the most popular islands – Maui, Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island – while only unpacking once.
